The next generation of the internet—Web3—is being built today, and Parity Technologies is the architect behind its core infrastructure. Known for developing Polkadot, the Polkadot SDK, and Kusama, Parity is on a mission to create a web that respects individual data and empowers developers to build intermediary-free services.
To further this mission, Parity’s Acceleration Department is searching for a visionary Android Engineer to lead the charge in crafting mobile experiences that bring the decentralized world to the palm of every user’s hand.
The Mission: Accelerating the Polkadot Ecosystem
This role sits within the Product Development team under the Acceleration department. While other teams at Parity focus on the deep-level substrate and relay chains, the Acceleration team is the bridge to the user. They drive ecosystem growth by building the tools, integrations, and partnerships that make Polkadot accessible and usable for the global community.
As an Android Engineer, the successful candidate will report to the Engineering Product Lead, helping to define priorities and design features that solve real-world mobile problems at a massive scale.
The Technical Challenge: More Than Just an App
Building for blockchain requires a unique blend of traditional mobile excellence and cutting-edge security. At Parity, the Android Engineer will:
- Architect High-Performance Systems: Design fluid Android applications that interact with complex blockchain protocols.
- Create “Beautiful” UX: In the crypto space, complexity is the enemy of adoption. The goal is to build smooth, intuitive interfaces using Jetpack Compose that make interacting with digital assets feel natural.
- Solve Zero-Trust Hurdles: Work on complex challenges like cross-chain transactions and zero-trust security models where the user’s data never leaves their control.
- Integrate Web3 Tech: Implement the latest blockchain SDKs and cryptographic security measures to handle real-time data via WebSockets and REST APIs.
The Ideal Candidate Profile
Parity is looking for engineers who are not only masters of the Android ecosystem but are also genuinely excited by the prospect of changing how the world shares value.
Core Skill Requirements:
- Language & UI: Solid experience in Kotlin and a deep expertise in Jetpack Compose.
- Concurrency & Architecture: Mastery of Coroutines and the MVVM architecture.
- Security First: A profound understanding of encryption and secure data storage—a non-negotiable in the world of decentralized finance.
- Real-time Data: Experience handling high-frequency data via WebSockets and REST APIs.
The Parity Work Environment
Parity is a remote-first, global team. While the work is decentralized, the culture is highly collaborative.
- Global Autonomy: Work from anywhere in the world with a flexible schedule.
- Physical Connection: Though remote, team members meet throughout the year for company-wide and departmental retreats to foster connection and brainstorming.
- Contractor Status: Candidates will be onboarded as a contractor through Parity’s UK entity.
- Security Clearance: All successful candidates must undergo a background check via Zinc, Parity’s trusted third-party provider.
💡 Pro-Tips for Applicants: Breaking into Web3 Mobile
1. Show Off Your “Security” Mindset
In Android development, “security” often means obfuscation. In Web3, it means key management. If you have experience with the Android Keystore, Biometric Prompt, or hardware-backed security, highlight it. Parity needs to know that you can handle a user’s digital keys safely.
2. Focus on Performance in Jetpack Compose
Blockchain apps often involve real-time price feeds and transaction updates. Demonstrating how you manage state and recomposition in Jetpack Compose to maintain a smooth 60fps UI while handling background WebSocket data will be a major differentiator.
3. Understand the “Ecosystem”
You don’t need to be a Polkadot expert on day one, but showing an understanding of what Interoperability and Cross-Chain communication mean will help you stand out. Mentioning your interest in how mobile can solve the “onboarding” problem for new crypto users shows you are aligned with the Acceleration team’s mission.
Parity is an Equal Opportunity Employer and a champion of the open-source movement. They are committed to building a diverse team where everyone feels welcome and included in the Web3 revolution.
